issue 4 – in motion
How has the concept of being”in motion” sculpted your life?
Movement has shaped my entire life. Born in Germany to a German father and Italian mother, I relocated to Italy as an infant. As a child, I moved from city to city, cultivating a love for travel. Now, residing in Rome, I express this concept of being”in motion” through my dance and choreography. For me, movement is more than physical travel, it’s the rhythm of life that fuels my passion as a dancer. Without it, I simply couldn’t be.
Reflecting on your past self, how have you evolved and what remains constant?
The Andreas you see now is a lot like the old me. I’ve grown, sure, and feel more grounded, but there are still things I’m figuring out. I’ve always been someone who’s down-to-earth, hardworking, and driven, and I’m proud of what these traits have helped me accomplish. My hope is to stay true to who I am and keep reaching for my dreams. The biggest difference now is that my love for dance isn’t just a passion anymore; it’s my career, and it’s given me the freedom to stand on my own two feet financially.
Can you articulate the emotions that dance evokes within you?
For me, it’s less about my own feelings and more about what the audience experiences when they see me dance. I like having all eyes on me, not out of vanity, but because it gives me the chance to connect with them, to make them feel something. I see myself more as a storyteller, using my body to share a message. My journey began with hip-hop, where dance was my outlet. Now, it’s not just about releasing my emotions, it’s about showing others what I can do and interacting with them through my performance. This desire has also pushed me to explore other art forms like acting, videos, theatre, and music. I find this world absolutely amazing, and I can’t wait to experience more of it.
Could you describe the energy exchange that occurs on stage?
Being on stage stirs up a powerful feeling inside me. It’s tough to put into words, but it’s a bit like a rush, similar to what people call adrenaline. I really believe everyone should try performing for others at least once. It’s like baring your soul, and if you’re completely true to yourself, it feels really good, like you’ve done something meaningful.
Where do you envision your path leading you in the next decade?
I’ve been lucky enough to dance on some pretty incredible stages, like Verona’s Arena and the Milano Forum. Each time feels like magic, but the one that stole my heart was San Siroin Milan. There comes a time when you’ve got to stop trying to outshine others. I’m at a place where I’m happy with what I’ve achieved, and I know what I bring to the table. I see myself in the world of dance a decade from now, but maybe in a different role. And even if my priorities shift and I’m not dancing myself, I hope I can share my love for dance and inspire creativity in others.
Can you share the origin story of your dance career?
My journey to dance was unexpected. I was a soccer player, but my brother was a dancer. We didn’t really get along, but one day, he talked me into going to a dance class. The moment I started dancing, I fell in love with it. It began as something I loved doing, and then it became my career. I owe a lot to my brother-he helped me discover my true passion and talent. Even though we didn’t always see eye to eye, he’s one of the most special people in my life.
What is your loftiest ambition in dance and your envisaged path of artistic growth?
I’ve done a lot of things I’m proud of. However, a big dream of mine is to go on a world tour with a world-renowned artist. I also want to take acting lessons. You see, I love to share my feelings in different ways, not just through my dance moves. When I dance, it’s more about the emotion I put into it than the steps. This is kind of like acting, right? So, I want to dig deeper into it. Every way I can express myself makes me feel really alive.
